Before we pull up a chair for Thanksgiving, let’s get our hearts in the right place. Know how there’s a big difference between hearing and listening? Or between eating and tasting? There’s a similar gap between thanksgiving and gratitude. When we are genuinely grateful, our lives change. Our feelings about the things we have and the things we don’t, about the life we live and the people we share it with – no corner of our world is untouched by the power of gratitude. The Psalms repeat and repeat, “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Maybe we should too. Let’s recall who we give thanks to – how good he is, how faithful his love. Let’s say thanks. And let’s mean it.
